Bright Green Landscapes Spring Tips – Elgin, IL

Preparing Your Lawn for Spring

Any day now the winter season will be coming to an end and more than likely you will want to spend more time outside. There’s nothing better than sitting back appreciating those nice sunny days and the simple pleasures of a nicely kept lawn. Here are a few steps to prepare your lawn for the spring time to make sure you start the year off right!

Removing Debris Landscapes Spring Tips

Take a walk around your property and remove any debris from the fall and winter months such as leaves or sticks etc. This will give you a nice
fresh start for spring. Leaving this debris will get in the way of mowing, seeding, watering and so on. Raking is also great for your lawn because it loosens the soil and encourages healthy air flow.

Apply Grass Seed

While you were removing the debris from your lawn you may have noticed areas with weak grass growth or dead grass. Use a hard rake and loosen the soil and apply grass seed. Mix loose soil and grass seed together until you have an even mixture. When applying grass seed, water is its best friend. Make sure to water at least once a day 10-20 minutes depending on the area. We prefer for you to water once in the morningLawn Repair Elgin,IL between 6 am – 8 am and once in the evening between 7 pm – 8:30 pm each with 10 – 20 minute intervals. Applying too much water to the point of having puddles is never good. Make sure to keep an eye on the watering process for 10-20 minute watering duration. Do not mow over seeded areas until the grass is 4 inches tall. You should have sprouts coming up within 2 weeks and full lawn in 4- 5 weeks.
